Alnmouth is a small, picturesque
village situated at the mouth of the River Aln, on the Northumberland
coast. It is located within the Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty, which stretches from the Borders in the north to
Amble in the south of the region.
Alnmouth is easily accessed
by car from the main A1 trunk road, only five miles away
and the London, Edinburgh mainline railway station is one
mile outside the village.
Other small, attractive villages
are just a short distance from Alnmouth.
Therefore, Alnmouth provides
the ideal starting point for a number
of walks. The walks are of varying distance, taking in both
coast and country. They vary in length from an easy 3/4
mile walk around Alnmouth to a more strenuous walk of 11
miles or so.
Along the way the walker will
see historical buildings, wonderful views and plenty of
places to picnic. All ages will find something of interest.
Most
routes are on footpaths and beaches avoiding roads.
There is also an excellent new cycle route between Alnmouth
and Warkworth.
